The
procedure is a combination of the Intralase FS Laser with Custom LASIK Treatment. The IntraLase Method is a form of LASIK surgery that uses a 100% blade-free approach in creating the corneal flap - the thin tissue that is folded back to prepare the eye for laser vision correction.
Traditionally, LASIK surgeons create the flap using a hand-held bladed instrument called the microkeratome. As the blade moves across the eye, a single, one-dimensional flap is made. By contrast, with the Intralase Laser, a precise and individualized flap can be made, without a blade ever touching the eye. LASIK performed with the microkeratome is an extremely safe procedure in which complications are rare. However, when they do occur, problems are most often related to the first, critical step in creating the corneal flap.
How does it work?
With the Intralase Method, tiny and rapid pulses of laser are passed through the outer layers of the cornea, forming a uniform layer of microscopic bubbles just beneath the surface of the eye. The tissue where the bubbles are formed is separated, creating a smooth, corneal flap that is lifted for LASIK correction to be performed. After the Intralase Method procedure is complete, the flap can uniquely "lock" back into place without stitches, allowing you to immediately heal from your laser eye surgery.
Reason to Consider Intralase
- 100% Blade-free (also known as All Laser LASIK)
- Procedure is much less invasive, which may yield faster recovery time.
- The exact dimensions of the layer of bubbles are computer controlled for maximum precision, as opposed to manual incisions made by the mircokeratome.
- Fewer LASIK-flap related complications
- Fewer induced higher order abberations, which contribute to visual distortions such as halos and glare.
- Extremely high degree of surgical control delivers outstanding visual results, whereby more patients achieve vision that is 20/20 or better.
