The CustomVue Procedure is a more advanced method of LASIK eye correction that provides a precise and unique analysis for each individual's vision. Using WaveScan-based digital techonology, originally developed for use in high-powered telescopes to reduce distortions when viewing distant objects in space, our doctors can now capture unique imperfections in each individual's eyes that could not have been measured before using conventional methods.
The information captured using the WaveScan technology is transferred to the laser, providing a new level of precision and accuracy. This new level of measurement provides 25 times greater precision than with the standard methods used for glasses and contact lenses.
Just like a fingerprint, each person's vision is 100 percent unique to his or her eyes; hence no two treaments are alike. The VISX STAR 4 CustomVue procedure can distinguish and correct the unique imperfections of each individual.
Reason to consider CustomVue:
- Patients with astigmatism, whether the condition is associated with nearsightedness, farsightedness, or mixed astigmatism, advancements with CustomVue is especially encouraging.
- Achievable customized treatment for each unique individual's needs, yielding better vision than before with glasses or contact lenses.
- In addition, clinical studies have shown that more patients are very satisfied with their improved night vision.
The Procedure
On the day of the LASIK surgery procedure, anesthetic drops are placed into the patient's eyes. The patient's unique correction information is transferred from the WaveScan to the laser. Laser vision correction works by gently reshaping the cornea with the cool beam from the laser to remove micrscopic amounts of tissue - less than the thickness of a human hair in most cases -to create a new curvature. The procedure typically takes several seconds and the majority of patients feel only mild discomfort and slight sensitivity to light. Many patients notice immediate results after CustomVue and their vision continues to improve over several days.
